Collective Worship

Friday Mass

Each half term, our Key Stage 2 classes prepare and lead Mass at St John Boste church. The children are involved in selecting appropriate hymns and preparing bidding prayers, and at the Mass the children will give the readings and the offertory procession.

Youth Sunday Mass

In November, we celebrated Youth Sunday by leading the Sunday Mass at St John Boste church. Before the day itself, each class prepared a special display to place around the altar centred around the theme of being a witness, and specifically focusing on the Laudato Si’ message of care for our common home.

The children greeted parishioners at the beginning of Mass, gave the readings and bidding prayers, carried out a very special offertory procession which involved setting the altar ready for the preparation of the gifts, and gave out specially made prayer cards to parishioners at the end.

We had lots of lovely comments from the congregation who were delighted to see so many of our children and their families making the Mass a very special celebration.

Class based collective worship

At the end of each of the nine RE units each class covers throughout the year, the children will prepare and share a collective worship with their class. This usually takes place in the classroom, but can also take place outside in our prayer garden, or elsewhere in a quiet, prayerful space.

This is a chance to reflect on and respond to what the children have been learning in RE, and to celebrate as a class community.

Celebration of the Word

Our classes regularly prepare a special celebration of the word to share in the hall with the other children in their Key Stage. Parents and families are welcome to come into school to share in these special celebrations, and it is always lovely to see the fantastic support the children enjoy from the adults in their lives.

The children will usually have a special ‘going forth’ item to give out, such as a prayer card or token for the adults to take home with them, or a special task for the children to complete in their classes to continue to live out the message of the collective worship.
